October Gratitude

Fall is a special time of year on Fire Island… The days are filled with bright sunshine, cool crisp air and clear blue skies. Majestic Monarch butterflies and the scent of fireplaces float on the breeze, while striped bass jump for surf casters’ hooks. The crowds and migratory birds have gone for the season… It’s the perfect time for this island-girl to embrace the change of seasons, reflect on the summer just passed and make plans for winter.

At this season's close, I want to give thanks to my friends, family and entire Fire Island community for making my inaugural season of Fairy House Mother a success. It’s been a dream come true!!! I hope to continue to provide the highest level of service and help my neighbors EnjoyLifeMore for many years to come.

Fairy House Mother is something I’ve been dreaming up for years and being able to finally turn those ideas into reality has brought me so much joy! I’ve been listening-to and learning-from this island since I can remember, and it’s finally my turn to help my Fire Island community, the way I know best. It's simple really. Fairy House Mother gives the gift of time, and time truly is the most priceless gift.

As Fire Island's home-grown concierge service, Fairy House Mother is committed to serving its clients, members and the community. In addition to my existing lifestyle services, I have a few wonderful ideas for next year that I think the island is really missing! I’m starting to plant these ideas now… Stay tuned for more info as these little seeds begin to sprout. (hint, hint)

Now that your beach house is closed… (pause, if you haven’t closed up yet btw - call me. I can help!) Otherwise, it’s time to enjoy all that Fall in New York has to offer! Here are some personal favorites to help guide you on your next Road Trip:

Take a drive out to the Northfork of Long Island and visit a winery that’s doing everything right at Shinn Estate Vineyards and Farmhouse , find a farm you’ll fall in love with like, Sang Lee Farms, and if you make your way to Greenport, make sure to visit the Greenport Harbor Brewing Co for a mighty fine craft beer and then enjoy a GREAT meal at First and South.

Or head North instead and go Upstate New York; the drive doesn’t disappoint I promise, I LOVE NY. If you have the time, make your way West to the Finger Lakes. Get lost, find your way... and make sure to savor some really good eats at Stone Cat Cafe and sip some surprisingly good wine at Dr Konstantine Frank Winery.

The colored mosaic of leaves changing fills the landscape; bulging bunches of grape berries soak up the last bits of sun; local farm stands are filled with the bounty of the daily harvest; pumpkins have grown plump on the vine, waiting to be picked.

The sun shimmers just a little bit more on the water, the air smells just a little bit cleaner, the birds and crickets chirp just a little bit louder and the food tastes just a little bit better. Inhale... Exhale... Smile…  Be grateful everyday!

Giving thanks is not just about turkey and stuffing at Thanksgiving. Share gratitude everyday and begin to EnjoyLifeMore. Thank you again Fire Island for a wonderful inaugural season of Fairy House Mother and here’s a little inspiration from TED, reminding us how to conjure up a little gratitude. Try watching one video a day for a week, SHARE with your friends and spread positivity and GRATITUDE. Always remember, dreams really do come true! Give Thanks Playlist by TED
